am i hearing correctly that they grew a non living substance on another. how is tha possible cuz then wouldn't it be not growing but manufacturing in a way? since its not living.

"am i hearing correctly that they grew a non living substance on another"

They mean "grow" in sense that you "grow" a crystal; they aren't manufactured by mechanical placement of atoms/molecules, they self-assemble via chemistry.

Really, that's how YOU grow, too. :) I mean, everything you're made of is non-living, and self-assembles itself via ordinary chemistry, it's just that the chemistry is A LOT more complex and builds materials and structures that work in concert to form a living thing.
